When organizations have large-scale marketing needs, they turn to me. From establishing new PR/marketing functions and advising start-ups, to simply working as an in-house hired gun or providing strategic counsel, I work to reach audiences and enhance their experience — with the end result of increasing conversions and revenue.

I have extensive experience in all aspects of social media, advertising, marketing and PR, which has resulted in highly successful campaigns for organizations including The Open Group, Yahoo!, KB Home, Sunsweet, AT&T, Prudential, Tyco and JetBlue.

PR & MARKETING: Was in-house Marketing Communications Director at the world’s leading IT standards body. Agency work: Formerly Management Supervisor at a top public relations agency (PRWeek’s 2009 “Agency to Watch”); and previous to that, Accounts Manager/Director of Special Projects, and Vice President of Client Services, respectively, at two diversified, full-service Bay Area marketing firms over the past decade.

WEB: Experienced in site creation, managing all aspects of developing award-winning websites. Adept with SEO and e-marketing techniques and implementation. Knowledgeable about site plan formulation, design, copy and strategic planning/business model refinement.

SOCIAL MEDIA: Adept at social media implementation as strategic elements of overall integrated campaigns, or even as main components of a marketing presence worldwide; and utilizing digital tools including blogs, webinars, podcasts, microsites and sentiment monitoring to extend and enhance organizations’ communications and achieve ROI.

WRITING/EDITING: A decade of prior experience as an award-winning news professional with excellent news judgment and solid sourcing. Established reputation as a prolific, stylish and thorough writer and a detail-oriented line editor. Have carried this over to marketing communications, where clear, strategic and impactful writing is imperative.

MANAGEMENT: Adept at overseeing teams and divisions, making personnel decisions and setting goals/priorities (and helping employees achieve them). Launched orientation initiative at most recent agency with the goal of higher new employee retention. Was founding president of a 90-member press club and oversaw startup and all related activities.

VERTICALS: Comfortable with both consumer and B2B verticals ranging from technology, media and environmental offerings, to more traditional fields such as construction, real estate services, healthcare and manufacturing.

Marketing Communications Director
The Open Group
San Francisco, Boston, Reading UK    Sept. 2010 — Nov. 2011

Until Nov. 30, I oversaw and coordinated the marketing efforts for The Open Group, a global standards consortium. Responsibilities included establishing a cohesive marketing presence, extending the organization’s global footprint, driving membership engagement and events attendance, external corporate communications, and rebranding. Notable accomplishments included the following:

At The Open Group, I marketed globally recognized brands such as UNIX® and TOGAF®, promoted the profession of enterprise architecture, and directed attention to vendor-neutral open standards in the areas of data security and Cloud. In keeping with The Open Group’s goal of raising awareness of the importance of standards in the IT industry, I was instrumental in promoting The Open Group as the de facto IT standards organization in the world.
